Wow. What a weekend!
It has been more than two years since we’ve seen any live music (thanks pandemic!) Our last big shows were September 2019 where we saw Metallica with the San Francisco Symphony.
This time around we are back in San Francisco as Metallica celebrated their 40th Anniversary. The celebration weekend included two shows. December 17 & 19, 2021. They promised unique setlist and they did NOT disappoint. We heard deep cuts, classics and even a live debut… “Fixxxer” from their 1997 album Reload. For these shows they went in chronological order on night one and reverse for night two. Check out these set lists, a few of my photos and my video of “Fixxxer” below.

This was the first of two shows celebrating Metallica's 40th Anniversary.
At least one song was performed from each studio album and the setlist was structured in chronological order.
This was the first time in over nine years that "Trapped Under Ice" was performed live. It was last played on June 23, 2012.
This was the first time in over five years that "Orion" was played in the U.S.. It was last performed in the United States on September 27, 2016.
This was the first time in nearly five years that "King Nothing" was performed. It was last played on January 18, 2017.
This was live debut of "Fixxxer." It's time for fans to find another deep cut to obsess over.

This was the first time in over 11 years that "The End of the Line" was performed live. It was last played on November 18, 2010.
This was the first time in over 10 years that "Dirty Window" was played live and only the second time it's been performed in 17 years. It was last played on December 11, 2011 at The Fillmore.
While it was performed in full on December 5, 2011 at The Fillmore, this was the first time that James sang the full version of "Am I Evil?" in over 14 years. It was last played with Hetfield on vocals on July 15, 2007.
This was the first time in over 10 years that the full, electric version "Bleeding Me" was performed. That version was last played on December 7, 2011.
This was the first time in over 10 years that "Wasting My Hate" was played in front of a live audience. It was last performed in front of actual human beings on December 7, 2011 and again on the 2020 All Within My Hands live stream.
